Entries must be postmarked no later than September 7, 2012. Entries must have been published or broadcast between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012.

Entrants must be women journalists, photographers or cartoonists who are staff or freelance, based in the New York metropolitan area, for their respective news organizations.
If a contest submission contains multiple bylines that include the entrant and the names of male colleagues, a letter from the supervising editor of the piece must accompany the entry. The letter must state why, specifically, the newswoman on the project played a more significant role in the research, writing and execution of the work being submitted.
An entry may NOT be submitted in more than one category except when entered separately by different talents on the creation team. For example, in the Online category, an entry may be submitted by a reporter for one of the online Multimedia News Package awards. The same entry may also be entered by the videographer on the team for one of the Digital Video awards.
Any corrections or legal challenges to an entry must be included as part of the submission. In the case of a correction or legal issue, the assigning editor must include a letter explaining the context.
A tear sheet (full page or pages containing the article, special page, layout, etc.) must be submitted for entries published in newspapers or magazines. Clearly mark the tear sheet by highlighting or underlining the headline or title. Photocopies or printed PDFs of tear sheets are permitted, but they must show the publication name and date of issue printed on the page. Links will not be accepted.
For online entries, submit hard copy printed from the Internet. If the entry is still accessible to the public on the website, circle or write the URL on the top of the printed copy. Entries must have been created for use in electronic form; material written for print publication and reused on the Internet is NOT eligible.
For photography submissions, a photo, laser print or copy of original (no larger than 8″ by 10″ must be submitted. For digital work, a CD or DVD may be submitted, but the entry also MUST include printed copies (a laser copy is acceptable). Do not mount the photos.
For radio, television and video, DVDs or CDs are required for submission. Commercial breaks may be deleted, but no other editing may be done.
Submissions will not be returned.
Submissions must be entered as published, with no alterations of the original work.
An entry submitted in an incorrect category will be reclassified by the judges.
Judges will consider planning and general organization of an entry, initiative in obtaining the story, news writing, readability and impact. They will also consider originality, creativity, content organization, clarity of message and appropriateness to audience.
Each entry requires a separate entry fee of $100. Fees may be paid by check or money order, or by credit card via PayPal below. Fees must be paid at the time of submission. Make checks payable to the Newswomen’s Club of New York. Entries without entry fees will not be considered.
The Newswomen’s Club reserves the right to decline an award in any given category at the judges’ recommendation.
Winning entries may be posted on the Newswomen’s Club Web site and may be included in Club publications regarding the Front Page Awards.
