Caption: A young New York Liberty fan celebrated the team’s first-ever championship at a ticker-tape parade along the Canyon of Heroes, the third time such an honor has been bestowed upon a women’s sports team in New York on October 24, 2024.

Bio: Hiroko Masuike is a photojournalist for The New York Times, based in New York. She covers a wide variety of assignments, including breaking news and feature stories, politics, culture, sports and fashion. She is passionate about telling people’s stories, and is especially interested in covering social issues such as immigration, poverty and women’s issues. She has edited news photography for more than two decades at The Times when she is not in the field photographing. Raised in Tokyo, Hiroko moved to the United States in 1998 and joined The Times in 2003 after working for Newsweek magazine in New York and Agence France-Presse in Washington. Hiroko’s photography has been honored by Pictures of the Year International and N.P.P.A.’s Best of Photojournalism. Her long-term documentary project on Japanese tsunami survivors was screened at Visa pour l’Image and she was a finalist in their Visa d’Or feature award contest.
