Zeche Sterkrade
Caption: A cyclist passes by Zeche Sterkrade, a former colliery in Oberhausen which was in operation for 30 years until it closed in 1933. What used to be the site for mining operations has now become a green space for strollers and bikers.
Bio: Sara Konradi is a German-Iranian photographer based in Brooklyn, New York. She has a special interest in fashion, identity and (sub)culture, particularly how people present themselves to express belonging.
She grew up in Tehran and moved to western Germany when she was a teenager. She studied Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, where she received an exchange scholarship for Columbia University. Before becoming a freelance photographer, she worked in computational neuroscience and fashion marketing. She was then awarded the Director’s Fellowship at the International Center of Photography and was part of the NOOR Images, Missouri Photo, Eddie Adams, and Foundry Photojournalism Workshops. Her work has been awarded first place by the American Society of Media Photographers and shown internationally, including at Rencontres d’Arles and Leica Gallery Munich. Clients include The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, Stern, de Volkskrant, The Washington Post, NYC Tourism, and Eater NY.
